LIVIANA 2022 - Community Economies Online Conference
The Community Economies Research Network (CERN) is holding its third LIVIANA International Online Conference, 31 October to 11 November 2022.
LIVIANA is a decentralised series of exchanges and symposia that runs for two weeks, providing an opportunity for CERN members to connect and share.
The event is based on the sense of openness, free-floating train of thought, and cheerful spirit that the Spanish term liviana connotes.
The opening keynote will be delivered by Dr Priscilla Pinto Ferreira on the topic of ‘Economic marronage: Black solidarity economies confronting racial and epistemic injustice.’
Dr Ferreira will discuss experiences of Black solidarity economy organizing in Brazil as a window to examine the question: What can we learn from Black radical traditions and their experimentations of economic justice through mutual aid against the grains of racial capitalism and entrenching fascism?
Dr Ferreira will also reflect on the role of scholars of economic justice in perpetrating or ending racialized economic injustice and suggest ideas on how to engage activist scholarship guided by the principles of solidarity economy and racial and epistemic justice.
Dr Ferreira is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Geography, and Latino and Caribbean Studies at Rutgers University.
The second keynote will be delivered by Dr Stephen Healy on the topic of ‘Psyche and survival in times of climate breakdown.’
Dr Healy will explore how people in Western Sydney are responding to climate breakdown by adapting both the urban built form and the pattern and cadence of daily life, and in so doing engage in the psychic work of forgetting and losing forms of urban life that no longer serve.
Dr Healy is an Associate Professor at the Institute for Culture and Society at Western Sydney University.
Alongside the two keynotes, there are twenty-nine sessions covering topics such as:
- Digital tools for sharing community economies experiences
- EcoSocial Atlas, The Atlas of Transition Initiatives
- Enacting community economies in administrative life
- Feminist design practices and their entanglements with community economies
- Gendered struggles and socio-ecological care practices
- Participatory action research in organizational contexts
- Reimagining the blue economy, enacting other marine futures
All sessions are free. Most will be recorded and available on the Community Economies Institute YouTube Channel.
Most sessions are in English with some in Spanish and some being multilingual (English, Spanish, Portuguese).
