Diverse Economies Bogberg
The Diverse Economies Bogberg was developed by Kate Flood and her colleagues to capture the diversity that can be found in the Irish Peatlands. The bogberg includes the diverse economic activities that can be found in the peatlands that might enable a transition from traditional forms of work (such as peat mining and extraction) to new forms of work that are based on an ethics of care for social and environmental wellbeing. In line with their interest in the concept of resilience the bogberg also includes diversity in terms of the resources available for community-based action; the skills and technical knowhow; and local, indigenous and cultural knowledge and practices. The work of the bog itself (and wildlife) is included in the interface between top-down management practices and community-based and grassroots endeavours.
